Building reliable systems, growing engineering teams

I'm Prince Mokut, a Staff Platform Engineer with 14 years across infrastructure management, software delivery, and cloud platforms in banking, telecommunications, and international development.

Currently, I lead a team of 15 engineers at Vennote Technologies, delivering enterprise AI solutions for MTN. Previously, I was Principal Manager of Software Development at DAI, where I grew the engineering team from 3 to 10 and built an AI platform that saved $800K in vendor costs.

Beyond my day job, I've trained 78,000+ engineers globally through LinkedIn Learning courses on Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD—courses now adopted by universities including the University of Florida.

The Journey

My career started in the trenches of systems engineering at one of Nigeria's largest banks, where I learned what it takes to keep mission-critical systems running at scale. Managing infrastructure for 30+ banking applications processing millions of daily transactions taught me that reliability isn't just a technical concern—it's a business imperative.

That foundation led me to cloud architecture and DevOps, where I discovered my passion for building systems that enable teams to ship faster without sacrificing stability. At DAI, I had the opportunity to lead Agile transformations across six IT teams and architect AI platforms that delivered measurable business outcomes.

Philosophy

I believe the best engineering leaders are force multipliers. My job isn't just to build systems—it's to build teams that can build systems. That means creating environments where engineers can do their best work, establishing clear processes that reduce friction, and always keeping the business outcome in focus.

Teaching has been central to my growth as a leader. Creating LinkedIn Learning courses forced me to crystallize complex concepts into clear, actionable guidance. The feedback from 78,000+ learners has made me a better communicator and a more empathetic leader.

Leadership Principles

The values that guide how I lead teams and make decisions.

Clarity Over Cleverness

The best solutions are ones your team can understand, maintain, and evolve. Complexity should be a last resort, not a first instinct.

Outcomes Over Output

Shipping features means nothing if they don't move the needle. Focus on business impact, not just technical delivery.

Psychological Safety First

Teams that can raise concerns, admit mistakes, and challenge ideas openly are teams that build better software.

Automate the Boring Stuff

Engineers should spend time on creative problem-solving, not repetitive tasks. If you're doing it twice, automate it.

Teach to Learn

The best way to master something is to teach it. Mentoring others sharpens your own understanding.

Ship, Learn, Iterate

Perfect is the enemy of good. Get feedback early, learn from users, and improve continuously.
